Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 October 2026 · Plain-language, India-focused
1. Who is responsible for your information
Indian Family Tree is operated by IndianFamilyTree.com, part of the SocialPulse network, at 15166 SE Aston Loop, Portland, OR 97236. This policy covers IndianFamilyTree.com and its connected app.
Privacy contact: support@socialpulse.com. Grievance Officer, Social Pulse Inc, 15166 SE Aston Loop, Portland, OR 97236.
Our purpose is to help families preserve their histories and memories while giving people clear choices about what they share.
2. Information we collect
Depending on the features you use, we collect:
- Account information, such as your name, verified email or phone number, login-provider identity, language and account settings.
- Family content you choose to add, such as names, relationships, life dates, biographies, photographs, stories, obituaries and memorials. Some information about you may be submitted by relatives or other members.
- Contributions to locality pages, group membership, event details, messages and invitations that you choose to send.
- Support requests, reports, permissions and consent records.
- Limited technical information, such as IP address, browser/device details, login/security events and essential cookie or app-storage information.
We do not need Aadhaar, passport copies, financial details, genetic records or medical records for ordinary use. Do not upload these. If evidence is exceptionally needed to resolve a dispute or verify authority, we will explain what is needed and ask for the least intrusive form.
Precise device location is optional, requested only when you choose a location feature. Selecting a locality manually should remain possible.
3. How we use information
We use necessary information to provide accounts, store and display family content to your selected audience, support family collaboration, operate approved public locality and memorial pages, send requested invitations or updates, prevent abuse and answer complaints.
We use personal information only for stated lawful purposes and an applicable legal basis. Where consent is required, we ask clearly and let you withdraw it. Permission to use optional features or marketing is separate from accepting the Terms.
We do not sell your personal information. Private family content must not be used for targeted advertising or unrelated network promotion. Any optional analytics or advertising use must be explained and controlled separately.
You can use core services without agreeing to optional marketing, network publication or non-essential tracking. Withdrawing a necessary permission may prevent the related feature from working, which we will explain.
4. Family privacy and public sharing
Family records are private by default and visible only to people you authorize. Public listing or publication requires an explicit choice. A locality link or shared SocialPulse login must not change that choice.
Living people’s contact details and exact addresses are not public by default. Children’s identifiable records are restricted as explained below. Public memorial or locality content may be viewed by visitors and indexed by search engines when approved for publication.
Family administrators manage access to their trees, but may not ignore the rights of people described in them. If information about you was added without permission or is inaccurate, contact us even if you are not registered.
Approved group messages and replies are visible to authorized group members. A confidential report is handled separately. Do not post sensitive information into a group unless you intend those members to see it.
Public sharing can lead to screenshots or independent copies outside our control. We can remove information from services we control but cannot guarantee removal of every outside copy.
5. Children’s information
Independent accounts are limited to adults aged 18 or over. This does not by itself authorize collecting information about children.
Identifiable child records or photographs may be accepted only through a lawful parent or guardian with the required verifiable permission and safeguards. Until that process is implemented, do not submit them. A relative’s ordinary approval is not a substitute for verified parental or guardian authority.
We do not make child profiles publicly searchable, target advertising to children or use their information for behavioural monitoring. Tell us promptly if a child’s information was added improperly. We will restrict access, investigate and remove or otherwise address it as required.
6. SocialPulse sign-on and network sharing
Where connected SocialPulse sign-on is enabled, the central login service shares the minimum identity information needed for this app, such as a stable account identifier, verified login information and selected profile details. It does not automatically share your family tree, private photos, contacts or messages with other apps.
App permissions remain separate. We will identify the entity operating central identity and any separate recipient organizations before enabling that arrangement.
If you choose SocialPulse network sharing for a public photo or story, approved network sites may display it within the permission you gave. This is optional and does not apply to private family material. You can withdraw future distribution and request removal of copies controlled by us.
7. Service providers, AI and outside services
We use only the providers needed to operate selected features, such as hosting, database/storage, sign-on, email/SMS delivery, maps and AI translation or drafting. They receive only necessary information under appropriate arrangements.
Confirmed providers and processing: Lovable Labs, Inc. Do not assume every Lovable-related service receives all family information.
If you choose an AI feature, we will explain what content is sent and why. We do not send entire private trees, identity documents or private evidence to AI providers by default. Private submissions are not authorized for general AI-model training by these terms; the operator must configure and verify provider terms accordingly.
Translations and AI suggestions can be wrong; originals should be retained and corrections supported. External video embeds, maps or links may have their own privacy practices. Load optional embeds only with the relevant choice where required.
We may disclose limited information where necessary to comply with lawful orders, protect people or investigate misuse. We assess such requests and do not give unrestricted access merely because someone claims authority.
8. Cookies, messages and location
Essential cookies or app storage support sign-in, security and preferences. Optional analytics or advertising storage requires a separate choice where applicable, and refusing it should not block core access.
Notification preferences let you choose event, family, remembrance or community updates. Marketing needs separate permission and an easy opt-out. We do not upload your address book automatically or use invitation contacts for marketing.
We use broad locality for public maps. Exact home, event or pickup locations are restricted to approved recipients. Image-location metadata should be removed from public uploads by default; confirm this control before launch.
9. Storage, retention and protection
We keep information only as long as needed for its purpose or a lawful retention requirement. Account and content retention, deletion processing time, backup-expiry period and the security-log schedule are currently set to three months.
You may delete eligible content or request account closure. Shared records and contributions may require individual review; lawful preservation for disputes, security or statutory obligations may continue. We will explain the reason and expected period rather than promise instant deletion of every copy.
Hosting or processing may occur outside India, in the United States. We follow applicable Indian transfer restrictions and appropriate contractual/security arrangements. We do not claim that all data stays in India unless verified.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including access controls and protection appropriate to the information. No system is completely risk-free. If a personal-data breach occurs, we will take containment measures and provide legally required notifications. We do not claim unverified end-to-end encryption.
10. Your choices and requests
You may contact us to request access to information about you, corrections, deletion, withdrawal of consent or review of a privacy complaint. Where the applicable DPDP provisions are in force and apply, statutory rights include the prescribed access information, correction/erasure, grievance redressal and nomination. We will explain the available process.
You may nominate someone to exercise applicable data rights in the circumstances the law permits; this does not transfer ownership of a family tree or replace succession law.
We will verify requests using proportionate measures. We will not demand an Aadhaar copy for an ordinary correction without a justified lawful need. You need no account to report a privacy violation affecting you.
Withdrawing optional consent should be as easy as giving it. We will stop the related future processing unless continued retention/use is legally required and explain any consequences.
Unresolved concerns may be taken to an applicable statutory authority or forum when its jurisdiction and complaint process apply. This policy does not limit mandatory rights.
11. Complaints and policy updates
Contact our privacy team at legal@socialpulse.com or Grievance Officer, Social Pulse Inc, 15166 SE Aston Loop, Portland, OR 97236.
Include a link or record identifier and your concern, without unnecessary sensitive documents.
Where applicable intermediary rules apply, complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and generally resolved within seven days; specified urgent content or removal complaints receive the shorter required treatment. Privacy requests follow applicable legal deadlines and our verified request process.
We will show the date of policy changes. Significant new data uses will be explained and fresh consent obtained where required. Translations should be available in languages appropriate to our users.
